Support the mission of the free student-led Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC) through our virtual Dance for Diabetes (D4D) celebration!
The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to disrupt our lives and prevent us from gathering at our annual gala, but it remains crucial that we continue to raise funds for this very important community resource. The ICC was founded in 2013 by students from the Chicago Medical School as a way to serve the primary health care needs of the county's low-income population. The student-led clinic is supervised by licensed faculty and provides valuable clinical experience for students and interprofessional care for patients from RFU's medical, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, podiatry and psychology degree programs.
From 2016-2020, the ICC has provided care for more than five hundred Lake County citizens with more than 3,000 encounters for those in need of health services, and has become essential for the local under-resourced population.
Your donation will continue to support telehealth, and also the transition back to in-person appointments. ICC student volunteers have continued to care for patients in need through telehealth, providing services in medicine, psychology and physical therapy. The telehealth model can alleviate disparities in access to care, particularly for patients who can't take off work, lack transportation and access to childcare.
You can also support the clinic and our students by purchasing limited-edition apparel. All proceeds benefit the ICC!
At the ICC, many patients fall below the poverty line, and in many occurrences, health is not prioritized until problems become severe. Approximately 50% of the patients treated at the ICC have been diagnosed with diabetes or present with pre-diabetic symptoms, and it's not uncommon to see patients with untreated diabetes. Patients who are under-resourced are front and center at the ICC during interprofessional visits where students work to understand their patient populations and build rapport and trust.
Your support is needed to fund patient care at the ICC including diagnostic testing, treatment, supplies for patients with diabetes and diabetes education classes.
If you want to directly see your impact, please watch or review the slides from the ICC's recent State of the ICC presentation. Students are doing amazing work in our local communities.

192 days ago by Heather TrufferThank you to everyone who has contributed to our virtual Dance for Diabetes Celebration! So far, we are more than halfway towards the $5,000 generous match from Dr. Chen, which ends on December 20. If we can meet this match we will also reach our $10,000 match from the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County!
Be sure to continue your advocacy and share this D4D campaign with your friends and family. Together we can reach our goal and empower this important student-led, community serving program.
