How does a place become a community? And how do we sustain our communities over time? The White Mountains: A Crossroad examines how four communities along the Western White Mountains came to be the way they are today. This exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Plymouth Historical Society, the Upper Pemigewasset Historical Society, the Bethlehem Historical Society, and the Franconia Heritage Museum. Using the buildings (a courthouse, a church, a café/store, and a farmhouse ) where each group is housed as focal points, the exhibition explores how these four communities developed and continue to evolve. Franconia Notch looms large in these communities as both a barrier and a connector.
