For the first time ever, it’s a 5C GivingTuesday!
This year, the Claremont Colleges are collectively participating in GivingTuesday in a show of solidarity and recognition that this pandemic has affected the Consortium as a whole. Countless connections from lifelong friends to spouses to business partners have sprouted from the unique structure of the Claremont Consortium, and coming together during this GivingTuesday allows us to celebrate those relationships, particularly in a time when human interaction may be limited.
Always mindful of Pitzer’s future
Since 1963, Pitzer College has offered a unique educational experience rooted in our five core values. Alumni have been shaped by some of this country’s most revolutionary times, from the Civil Rights Era to the more recent climate change movement. Now, current Pitzer students are pursuing their degrees while grappling with ongoing issues of racial and environmental injustice amid a global pandemic.
This year has been unexpected, emotionally draining, and for many, a transformative period. Through this lens, the College has sought to maintain the Pitzer community by remaining rooted in our core values. We recognize that this global pandemic has affected individuals differently and have made concerted efforts to keep our educational experience as equitable as possible. From helping students purchase flights home in the spring to increasing financial aid in the fall and avoiding involuntary staff furloughs, Pitzer has exhibited a strong commitment to our community and social responsibility.
Even through these difficult times, Pitzer remains a beacon of progress in higher education. Earlier this year, President Melvin L. Oliver announced the launch of the Racial Justice Initiative (RJI), which is challenging our institution and community to reflect on ways to continually evolve and use our findings to create tangible change in the world.
The College has been steadfast in its commitment to the Pitzer community despite the financial impact this pandemic has had on the institution. As Pitzer confronts an estimated $7 million loss due to COVID-19, we are seeking support from those who have the capacity to provide a financial gift. We recognize the pandemic has proved to be a financial challenge for many, so our ask does not come without hesitation and a recognition that some may not be able to make a financial gift at this time. Additionally, we have already witnessed an immense amount of growth, grace, and generosity from our College community—thank you! However, in order to continue providing our unique educational experience for future generations of engaged, socially responsible citizens of the world, we ask that you consider investing in the Pitzer core values you treasure by making a gift to the College during this day of giving. Though Pitzer is the youngest member of the Claremont Consortium, we know our community will rally once more on this day of giving to provide a future for the next generation of Pitzer students.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support of Pitzer College
and our core values.
