The Pitzer College Class of 2019 dares you to stand in solidarity with our peers through a contribution to our Senior Class Gift.
This year, we have chosen to highlight the Dean of Students Emergency Fund, the Pitzer Immigration Civil Rights Fund, and the fund for Pitzer Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault.
Given the continued pressure, marginalization, and assault directed at many students living in and contributing to our community, the Class of 2019 declares its commitment to all students and their families negatively impacted by national policy change, violent rhetoric and action, and the damaging effects of natural disaster. We also intend for our Senior Class Gift to help create a safety net for students who may face future harm or, due to an emergency, would need the urgent support of the College. We hope, with a donation to the Senior Class Gift, you will stand together with our current peers facing threat as well as future Pitzer students who will face unforeseen difficulties.
By making a gift today to the Dean of Students Emergency Fund, the Pitzer Immigration Civil Rights Fund, or the fund for Pitzer Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault, you can help us build a community that will support our peers whose struggles often remain the most invisible on campus.
- The Pitzer Immigration Civil Rights Fund assists potentially vulnerable students with continuing access to a Pitzer College education with confidence and without impediment. This fund defrays costs imposed on our students by legislation that targets people based on their immigration status or facing civil rights-related issues.
- The Dean of Students Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to currently enrolled Pitzer College students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an unexpected emergency, including but not limited to accident, illness, death of a loved one, fire damage, need for temporary housing, or natural disaster. This is administered on a case-by-case basis as need is determined.
- The fund for Pitzer Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault aids our advocates’ efforts to support survivors, create a campus environment that combats rape culture, foster allyship for survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, or hate crimes, and expand programming related to such issues.
Want to give to something else? You can! Here are some other important funds at Pitzer:
- The Pitzer Fund is Pitzer’s highest fundraising priority. The Pitzer Fund is an important resource for financial aid, academic initiatives, and student programs and services. Tuition does not cover the full cost of a Pitzer education, and the College’s endowment does not generate the full amount needed to support our students: the Pitzer Fund helps cover the gap.
- Sagehen Athletics—General is an unrestricted fund to support the greatest needs in Pomona-Pitzer Athletics.
- The Pitzer Internship Fund reduces the burden of unpaid or very low-paid internships through providing an average financial assistance award of $1,360 per student recipient.
- The Diversity Program Fund supports and cultivates educational programs, activities, and opportunities that address social justice and human diversity within the Pitzer community and the world-at-large.
- The Study Abroad Student Support Fund provides a financial award to cover costs beyond financial aid, such as passports, visas, baggage fees, transportation costs, or day-to-day incidentals.
