Real-world experience is crucial for college graduates seeking to enhance their job prospects. WPSU-FM offers invaluable opportunities for students like Maddie Biertempfel, who interned at WPSU in 2018 and is now a Washington Correspondent for Nexstar. Through paid internships, students gain reporting experience and training that make their résumés stand out. Many former WPSU interns now work as reporters, anchors, and producers across radio, TV, digital media, and podcasting.
Maddie Biertempfel noted that her WPSU internship significantly improved her writing and storytelling skills, which she now uses daily in her job as she turns complex political debates into concise, engaging stories.
Our goal for GivingTuesday is to raise $3,360 to fund two students for paid news internships at WPSU-FM for the spring semester of 2025. Any funds raised beyond this goal will support WPSU-FM's radio team and their work with interns.
Donors on GivingTuesday will help provide deserving and ambitious student reporters with the opportunity to gain valuable experience at WPSU-FM.
Testimonials:
- "As an intern at WPSU, I was treated with the respect of a full-time employee and given the patience needed for someone still learning. I explored my strengths and weaknesses in journalism and discovered what I wanted to pursue after graduation." - Addison Albert, weekday morning anchor/reporter for WTOV9 in the Ohio Valley.
- "The WPSU internship provided me with firsthand experience covering diverse stories, from elections to health issues. I learned about detailed election trends, the sensitivity required for interviewing patients, and how to engage an audience with compelling stories." - Tyler Olson, Capitol Hill producer for Fox News.
Support from donors on GivingTuesday will ensure that more students can benefit from these transformative internship opportunities. Thank you for your generosity!
