No matter the memories that “Hail to the Lion” evokes, this anthem unites Penn State faithful in Beaver Stadium, across the Commonwealth, and around the world. For nearly a century, the Penn State Blue Band has stirred our hearts with renditions of “The Nittany Lion,” “Fight On, State,” the alma mater, and other songs that form the soundtrack of Penn State pride.
Musically, the Blue Band is considered one of the best in the nation, demonstrating excellence week in and week out. However, in terms of funding, we lag behind our peers. This financial disparity leads to challenges and limitations that bands with more substantial endowments do not face.
To address this, a fundraising effort led by Blue Band members, alumni, and friends aims to grow the band’s endowment. Blue Band Director Greg Drane has set a long-term goal of establishing a multi-million dollar Blue Band Legacy Fund. This endowed fund will generate annual revenue to support the band’s budgeting, creative ambitions, equipment refurbishment and replacement, and more.
