Human trafficking is a major issue in the state of Florida, which over 2000 calls to the national trafficking hotline. Increased reports of sex and labor trafficking in the state now place Florida among the top 4 states in the nation fighting this hideous crime. NSU is located in Broward County, which is a hot spot for sex trafficking of minors and adults. We are just north of Miami Dade County, also struggling with sex and labor trafficking. There are essentially no places where survivors can get dental or vision care at no cost. Dental and vision services for survivors are extensive an expensive due to the violence and neglect experienced while being abused. Financial support to CREATE goes exclusively toward helping the victims.
The goal of CREATE is to restore confidence help the survivors start a new life. The response to services has been extremely positive. Clients have told us that it had been years since they had been able to see a dentist or optometrist. Some had never gotten dental or vison care before. Without a full set of healthy teeth, it is very difficult to find a job or concentrate on school. After getting care, one survivor lady is studying for her GED. Another is hoping to get into nursing school after the relief of extracting impacted wisdom teeth. A third survivor can now drive to the new job she was hired for. CREATE hopes to continue this much needed work and seeks your support in doing so.
