JAX PA Medical Mission to Dominican Republic

This campaign ended on August 01, 2020, but you can still make a gift to Nova Southeastern University by clicking here!

The Physician Assistant students of Nova Southeastern University Jacksonville (NSU JAX PA) has been given the opportunity to share our medical experience and skills to deliver healthcare to underserved populations in the Dominican Republic.

NSU JAX PA students, in partnership with DR missions, have provided quality medical care to those in need for the last two years. The NSU class of 2021 is continuing to build the tradition of service and selflessness, set before us by prior cohorts.

From August 2-9, 2020, the NSU JAX PA student team will travel to the Dominican Republic to emphasize preventative health service, while caring for the urgent medical needs of residents.

With your support, we will be able to provide personalized care in wellness clinics in different neighborhoods. Many of our students have extensive medical background, some with training in IV infusions. Our team members will rotate through different roles in Labor and Delivery, NICU, Trauma, Pre-op, Surgery, Pediatrics, and ER. Our roles will include clinical blood pressure checks, heart rate monitoring, blood sugar physical examinations, as well as screenings for possible infections. We will also volunteer in a local hospital where we can care for trauma patients.

This medical mission trip is very important because although poverty has a huge effect on our patients’ lives, we want to impart education on wellness and preventative health care. We can show people that there are ways to stay healthy and avoid complications of diseases. Our team is looking forward to sharing in the experience of a positive change in the lives of the people in the community.
