2019 Sea Turtle Education & Care

This campaign ended on September 19, 2019, but you can still make a gift to Nova Southeastern University by clicking here!

The Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC) at the Carpenter House was opened to bring the ocean community to life through education, interactive learning and research. Captain, our resident endangered sea turtle, was hit by a boat in 2010. She has permanent injuries and would not survive in the wild. We strive to provide a safe and happy environment for Captain, and you can help!

One of the major issues Captain faces every day is with her buoyancy: she floats at the surface without the proper assistance. We are hoping to build Captain a weighted backpack she can wear in the water to make swimming less stressful. Your donation will not only help Captain, but also contribute to expanding our education programs! We want to reach even more of the public by bringing the ocean to the classroom with new models, specimen, and displays, but we need your help!

We need to raise at least $4,000 to purchase new educational tools and to build Captain the outfitting she needs to lead a healthier, happier life.
