THANK YOU!

Thank you for your generous support on Giving Tuesday! Your decision to invest in Northern Michigan University is truly appreciated. With the help of over 140 donors, we raised more than $80,000 in new resources for scholarships and student support.

Your contribution will be put to work right away, including the creation of two exciting new funds: the Wellbeing Fund and the School of Education, Leadership, and Public Service Scholarship.

Increasing the number of available scholarships is a key initiative and your support is helping us provide more students with the boost they need to keep moving forward. And when setbacks occur, our students know they have the support of the Northern community to lift them up during challenging times.

Thank you for being a part of something special at NMU!

Sincerely,

The NMU Foundation Team

Join the NMU community today and support NMU students!

This Giving Tuesday, your generosity can create a meaningful impact for NMU students. A $20 gift to the NMU Food Pantry provides a week's worth of groceries for a student in need. A $100 donation to the Emerick Book Fund could be the key to a student accessing essential textbooks. And with the average financial barrier to graduation being just $277, your support could be the difference that helps a student cross the finish line and earn their degree. Every contribution, no matter the size, changes lives.

About

We believe every teacher candidate should have the resources to succeed and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on students' lives. The newly established School of Education, Leadership and Public Service Scholarship is designed to provide critical support for teacher candidates as they work with K–12 students in both rural and urban school settings. With your support, we can ensure NMU graduates are not only prepared, but empowered to teach all students, regardless of their background or circumstances.

This scholarship makes a tangible impact on our teacher candidates and the students they serve in real-time. By providing immediate access to course materials, we can remove the small barriers that often stand in the way of success, giving our future educators the confidence to make the in-the-moment decisions that matter most.

Teacher candidates at NMU are engaged in hands-on, real-world research and service projects, and your contribution allows us to support those efforts. These projects often emerge from the ideas and passions of our students and by applying funds to resource their research, we nurture their enthusiasm and encourage authentic, student-centered learning.

For example, a small investment in literacy materials can have a massive ripple effect. When a teacher candidate receives funding to purchase these materials, they can directly impact 30 students in their classroom, helping them grow as readers and learners. This kind of immediate, meaningful support is the foundation for building confident, capable educators who know how to create change on the spot.

Assistive technology is another critical need. For many K–12 students, especially those with disabilities, access to the right tools can make all the difference. Imagine the transformative impact your gift will have when we are able to provide a student with a device or technology that helps them better engage with their peers, their learning and their community. This technology can change not just the student’s experience, but their future.

Your support of this scholarship will directly benefit our teacher candidates, who in turn, will make a difference in the lives of their students. It’s an investment in confidence, growth and opportunity—not just for one future educator, but for all the students who will benefit from their teaching.
