In honor of our commitment to serving as the Community’s College, MVCC is launching a new fundraising effort to assist students through the COVID-19 crisis. MVCC Cares will support students that have fallen on hard times due to the epidemic, helping them stay on track to complete their degrees by providing need-based micro-grants to assist with basic resources due to lost wages or unexpected expenses for food, transportation and housing. The campaign will run from Monday, April 20 through Tuesday, June 30. During this timeframe MVCC will celebrate several milestones, including: the conclusion of Community College month, the celebration of #GivingTuesdayNow and what would have been MVCC’s Commencement for the Class of 2020.
The majority of MVCC’s students face financial stress under the best of circumstances. With the advent of the pandemic, that stress has been radically heightened. In addition to the everyday challenges they already faced, students are now struggling to survive forced unemployment, the costs of internet and technology resources for distance learning, childcare, healthcare, and so much more.
MVCC is proud to be the Community's College. We were among the first to support those on the front lines by donating ventilators, thousands of pairs of gloves, and additional personal protective equipment to our local healthcare and emergency workers; now it is time to reach out to the individuals who are being quietly defeated by layer upon layer of setbacks. We have stood in the gap for our students for nearly 75 years, and in this extraordinary era of disaster and instability we are stepping up to fill that gap once more.
