Pop the College Bubble. Be Fully Present. Spread the Love. Missouri State's Immersion Programs allow students the opportunity to spend their breaks (spring, summer, fall) volunteering, immersed in the community. These experiences allow students to learn more about a community, immerse themselves in the culture and social issues that a community faces, and grow as a volunteer into an Active Citizen.
You will help our students live the public affairs mission and make a difference in the New Orleans community by making a gift! Your donation will be used for travel expenses, including food, lodging, etc. In addition donations will be used to offer extended service opportunities for Bear Breaks participants before and after their trip.
Support our #citizenbears as they travel to New Orleans during their spring break to learn and serve. Their trip is called Building for Change: New Perspectives in New Orleans. The week will be filled with opportunities for learning, serving and understanding new perspectives involving ongoing issues. These issues, surrounding community revitalization and culture in this population, have been neglected over the years. Students will advocate for the affected population and visit sites that were destroyed by Katrina in 2005 while learning about the history of New Orleans. By joining with Habitat for Humanity, a national organization designed to create affordable housing, students will help build a home for those still suffering from the effects of flooding, even eleven years later. Their goal: to immerse themselves in the community and to bring their new perspectives to Springfield, MO.
Thank you in advance for your support! Donors can qualify for multiple incentives based on their total gift. For example, a $100 donor will receive all the incentives listed up to and including the $100 level.
*In addition, MSU alumni that make a qualifying gift of $25 or more receive an Active Alumni Member card.
