First-generation students are the first in their families to attend college. They face challenges that other students don't face and statistically, they are less likely to graduate. We need your help to support first-gen students!
- 33-35% of Missouri State's current student population is first-gen, many MSU alumni were also first-gen students themselves.
- First-gen students face tight finances, and may not know about all the available financial aid.
- They may be working multiple jobs, commuting to school and caring for other family members.
The new First-Generation Student Support Fund is designed to help meet the needs of these students. It can be used for scholarships, special programming, networking opportunities, peer mentoring and other opportunities related to supporting first-gen students.
You can certainly choose to give to any fund at MSU through this campaign, but only donations to the First Generation Student Support Fund will by matched by Tim Foote, '72, until the matching funds are exhausted.Your gift can be matched dollar for dollar, up to a certain amount! UPDATE: matching funds are no longer available.

Thank you all so much for your support of this project! I'm pleased to announce that we are very close to the $10,000 goal with two days left! There is a little more than $400 to go and with the matching opportunity, we just need gifts totaling $202 to reach the goal! Please share this great news and ask your Bear friends to help!
I want to thank all of your on behalf of all of our first-generation students, past and present. I am a first-gen student, and I know the challenges first-hand! You are helping our students get the best possible start and the support they need to be successful MSU graduates!
