About

Students should focus on learning and not worry about where their next meal is coming from.

Founded in February of 2019, MSU's Bear Pantry is an organization that is focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty on Missouri State’s campus. According to a 2018 national study conducted by Wisconsin Hope Lab, about 36% of college students are experiencing hunger.

Bear Pantry’s mission is to serve members of the MSU community who are currently facing food insecurity. Not only do they combat hunger, they also provided everyday essentials we often take for granted; everything from toothpaste to socks!

Open Monday-Friday from 9-5 in University Hall 012, our Bears, whether they be students, faculty or staff, can come fill out a one-time application to utilize the pantry. Bear Pantry values confidentiality and simply wants our Bears to have one less thing to worry about during their Missouri State experience.

Bears should focus on their education and not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Make your gift today to support Bears in need!

Anyone who gives $50 or more in the month of March will receive a limited edition pair of Missouri State birthday socks while supplies last.

Specially designed by a student for our 115th birthday, wearing these socks is a great way to make your Missouri STATEment.

*In addition, MSU alumni who make a qualifying gift of $50 or more receive a V.I.B.card - Very Important Bear.

If you cannot make a monetary gift today, please share this campaign on social media as your gift. You can even have a chance to get socks by sharing too!

Updates

Our entire world has been in a place of uncertainty over the last weeks. COVID-19 has caused widespread devastation.

Missouri State’s Giving Day previously scheduled for March 24th has been cancelled.

Missouri State’s Giving Day involves the entire Missouri State community. Without our students, alumni, friends, faculty and staff being able to celebrate with us, it just would not be the same. We are saddened that we are unable to gather together with our Bear family at this time, but we know considering the health of our community was the best decision.

You have asked how you can help fellow Bears at this time. Consider supporting the following if your situation allows and find out more information at Bears Care.

  • The Student Emergency Fund has been set up to respond to students’ Bear necessities by providing relief for immediate hardships, such as travel expenses related to returning home, technology needs to ensure students can access virtual learning, and other unforeseen financial challenges.
  • Magers Health and Wellness Center serves MSU students and all MSU employees, and in many cases, their families.
  • Scholarship Support will become an even greater need as the economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis present new challenges and financial burdens for many students and their families.
  • The Bear Pantry is one way the University is working to combat students’ and employees’ need for sustainable access to nutritional foods.
  • Missouri State Fund for Excellence always helps ensure that we offer educational excellence.

As we are all facing challenging times, staff for the Missouri State University Foundation are working remotely and on an altered business plan. Any donor who claimed Missouri State socks as a part of this campaign will receive socks. As things change, an updated timeline of shipping dates will be provided. We appreciate your support and are hoping you are well.
