Catherine McAuley's Birthday

This campaign ended on September 30, 2019, but you can still make a gift to Misericordia University by clicking here!

In association with Mercy Heritage Celebration:

Catherine recognized the many needs of people who were economically poor in early nineteenth century Ireland and determined that she and women like her could make a difference.

On August 15, 1924, the Sisters of Mercy established Luzerne County's first four-year institution of higher learning, College Misericordia, on nearly 100 acres of land in Dallas, Pennsylvania, purchased by the Sisters for this purpose in 1914.

Today, Misericordia continues to support students in providing support through the McAuley fund. The McAuley fund assists Misericordia University students by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable emergency expenses. Some examples of situations include accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire damage or other life events.
