Athletics Of The Future

"BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME," a famous sports adage adapted from a line in the hit movie "Field of Dreams, holds special meaning as Misericordia asks for support to construct a multi-purpose dome to be utilized by the campus and regional community. The planned construction of a multi-purpose dome will provide much-needed indoor space for the university's athletics, recreational, intramural, and wellness activities benefiting all students, faculty and staff. As the first school in the region to have an on-campus dome, it will allow Misericordia to offer the Back Mountain and regional community a year-round facility for recreational and competitive camps, leagues, and tournaments. This facility will provide critical indoor training space for Misericordia's 25 varsity sports - especially those that compete outdoors and are often impacted by unseasonable weather. Student-athletes comprise 33% of the student population - yet all 2,400 students and more than 600 faculty and staff will reap the benefits. The proposed location is adjacent to Manglesdorf Field. "Having a multi-purpose dome is a GAMECHANGER for Misericordia. It will greatly enhance the recruitment and retention rates of student-athletes and aid in the support of our 25 varsity sports teams. Over each of the past seven years, athletics has been involved in the recruitment of 47-49% of the incoming first-year classes. A dome will allow coaches to conduct more camps and recruiting activities, which helps students engage with the campus and coaching staff. Very few colleges in the Northeast have this type of year-round facility."
