Earn and Learn Program
Internships are an imperative part of our students' experience; but not all internships are paid. Many of our students work, come from lower-income backgrounds and/or are supporting families, so being able to take time off for hands-on learning is just not feasible. MSU Denver's Earn and Learn Program levels the playing field by providing a modest stipend to students who take unpaid internships.
The Earn and Learn program was developed by MSU Denver to address equity barriers within experiential learning. This program provides funding support to both undergraduate and graduate students who are in need of financial assistance to participate in unpaid, off-campus internship opportunities.
In spring 2020, 65 students were selected into the Earn and Learn program out of 120 applicants. Over 50 industry partners participated in providing internships to our students. With over 80% of our students working either full or part time while completing their degree, a paid internship allows our students to stay focused and complete their internship.
The Earn & Learn program allowed me to pay for childcare so that I could participate and focus on student teaching. At my placement, I was able to finally see what it is like to be a teacher and teach students in person. I gained so much real-world knowledge about the day to day of being a teacher.". – Kelcy
