About

The First-Generation Initiatives Program is an identity-based program operating under the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion (CMEI) here at MSU Denver. The purpose of First-Generation Initiatives is to serve as a resource hub for current First-Generation students as they navigate campus. The need for First-Generation Initiatives is essential as MSU Denver’s student population is comprised of 58.4% First-Generation students!

The First-Generation Initiatives Program goals are to increase the retention and graduation rates of First-Generation students. We achieve this by building community, serving as advocates, providing education on the First-Generation experience, influencing university policies, practices to be more inclusive of the First-Generation identity, and developing meaningful programs and university initiatives that support First-Generation students.

We ask that you be an influential part of this mission by donating to the First-Generation Initiatives Program during National First-Generation Week. By choosing to donate to our cause, you are helping First-Generation students gain access to additional workshops and training such as our Imposter Syndrome workshop, Self-Advocacy training, and our student panel to engage in discussions around the First-Generation experience. These specific workshops allow for students to find belonging, identify the strengths of being First-Generation, and gain valuable skills in overcoming the unique obstacles of being a First-Generation college student. Your donation will also contribute to our scholarship fund that helps First-Generation students with tuition, books, and living expenses in the Fall and Spring semester. These scholarships are awarded during our many events that we hold throughout the year.  And lastly, your generous donation will contribute to our bi-annual First-Generation graduation ceremony that marks the major milestone of being the first person in our students’ families to complete a four-year degree. We hold a ceremony at the end of the Fall semester and Spring semester to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to celebrate this huge achievement with family and loved ones.

Thank you for investing in our First-Generation college students!
