The Diversity in Nursing Scholarship
The Diversity in Nursing Scholarship was created in memory of Breonna Taylor, of Louisville, Kentucky, a 26-year-old African-American emergency medical technician who aspired to become a registered nurse before her tragic and untimely death on March 13, 2020. Georgia Baptist College of Nursing alumna and current doctoral student Jasmine Garrett initiated this scholarship to commemorate and share Breonna Taylor’s story of perseverance, servitude and dedication.
The scholarship will provide supplemental financial assistance to students enrolled in the College of Nursing who are from disadvantaged backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities who are underrepresented among registered nurses. The goal of this scholarship is to increase racial and ethnic diversity and improve student retention within the program, ultimately increasing diversity within the profession of nursing.
