The Lehigh Steel Bridge Team is a student-run, competition-based club.
Each year, the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) organizations provide the bridge specifications we must adhere to. These specifications change annually, including hypothetical topography, support placement, and more. As a team, we develop a bridge design from scratch during the fall semester, and we spend the winter and early spring fabricating the bridge based on our design, honing our shop skills.
In the spring, we enter our 20 ft. steel bridge in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition with the goal of making it to Nationals, where our design is tested for aesthetics and load-bearing capabilities, and our team's performance is evaluated in a timed build on-site. The hands-on education we gain is invaluable, the ideas for improving our design are impactful, and the memories made are priceless!
