The Pride Center engages more than 2000 students, staff, faculty, and alumni each year in educational and community-building activities. We exist to build a just, equitable world and campus through community building and the pursuit of change. We work to create a world where people of all genders and sexualities are able to thrive as their full selves. We rely on our gift account to provide for approximately 35% of our annual expenses. (See our Spring/Fall 2022 Report for additional context).
This year, funds raised through Giving Day help to support the following initiatives:
Student financial support: Because of generous donors, we are able to provide some financial support to students in need. In the past, grants have gone towards paying for student food/housing needs as a result of challenging family dynamics and have also gone towards supporting gender-affirming medical procedures for our trans/non-binary students who display financial need.
Peer-led support spaces: Led by trained undergraduate or graduate students, these meetings give students space to discuss identity-related topics and are specific to an identity group, including coming out, LGBTQ+ students of color, and transgender/non-binary students. Your funds help us to pay our student facilitators and to provide a small programming budget for each space.
Iris mentorship program: With a cohort of 35, Iris engages first-years, upperclassmen, graduate students, faculty, and staff in a unique "mentor family" model. Families meet throughout the semester, and the cohort comes together monthly. The focus of the mentorship program is on developing supportive relationships across generations and having dialogue across differences. Iris is run entirely on fundraised dollars, which provide materials, as well as small stipends for each mentor family.
Student professional development: Creating Change was back this year! We were able to send 4 students to Creating Change 2023 in San Francisco, CA. The trip is paid for entirely by our gift account and it allows for impactful leadership development opportunities for our students. In addition to Creating Change, we offer support to students who may want to attend various conferences and/or leadership opportunities.
Thank you in advance for making our work possible!
