Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have played a vital role as keepers of tangible materials of culture and as training grounds for the next generation of Black artists and art historians, curators, and conservationists. This panel discusses the impact and foresight these institutions continue to have in preparing emerging artists shaped by a rich cultural heritage, generational mentoring, leadership, innovation, collaboration, and inspiration.

Hampton Art Lovers presents the Point Comfort Art Fair + Show in Historic Overtown at the Historic Ward Rooming House during Miami Art Week/Art Basel/Soul Basel 2024. Point Comfort comprises an art exhibition and the Indaba Lounge Series at the Historic Ward Rooming House and Gardens. They are sponsored by the City of Miami Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Revitalization Agency & Art of Black (Greater Miami Convention & Tourism Bureau), 100 Black Men of Florida, Miami-Dade Economic & Advocacy Trust, FIU-Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab, E11even Vodka and Duke + Dame Whiskey.
Howard University's Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts is showcasing the creative talents of its students at Art Basel Miami Beach. This exhibition features works from Howard students, highlighting the university's significant role in nurturing Black artists.
Toni Morrison said, “The best art is political, and you ought to be able to make it unquestionably political and irrevocably beautiful at the same time.” For many Black artists, their work speaks not only for themselves but for the many others whose voices are often left out of mainstream media and art spaces. This panel explores how Black creators and creatives are using their art to reframe false narratives, document culture and drive meaningful change for a better future.
