About

On March 30th we celebrate Tuition Freedom Day – the day when all of the lights would go out on campus and Hood would stop operating if we relied solely on our main revenue dollars of tuition, room and board.

Hood’s operating budget is about 32% for student scholarships, 40% faculty and staff compensation and benefits, and the remaining 28% of the operating budget go to all other operating expenses. Such items as heating, electric, maintenance on our buildings and campus, technology, supplies, equipment, etc., etc.  Everything that keeps the college running.

Philanthropy from generous donors like you are a critical part of our budget to provide students with an exemplary education. In fact, these philanthropic dollars essentially cover about 3 months of our operating budget every year. We can think of this valuable philanthropy as the delicious donut hole that fills the budget for all of us.

As you can see, the “philanthropic” donut hole is valuable for keeping us going and reminds us of the missing piece in student tuition that is so generously filled by donors. Without annual giving and the Hood Fund dollars, Hood would not be able to provide the exceptional education and experience that we all love.

Your gift is important. No matter the size. Join us in making your Hood Fund gift to the College today in honor of Tuition Freedom Day.
