About

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law is committed to helping talented, purpose-driven students succeed in and beyond law school. For years, we have worked on improving the way we prepare students for the bar exam, strategizing and implementing various approaches across all years to assist students and improve the first-time bar exam passage rate. There have been small improvements that we’ve continued to build upon and for the Class of 2024, Hofstra Law has seen the highest bar passage rate in a decade.

Graduates who took the New York State Bar Exam for the first time in July 2024, achieved an 82% pass rate. This represents Hofstra Law’s best results for first-time takers since 2013 and a 3% increase over last year’s New York July first-time pass rate.

Through work with bar preparation providers and our own research, the Law School has identified that success on the bar exam requires students to complete 80 percent of their weekly bar preparation course materials.

Last spring, Hofstra Law initiated a pilot program for Bar Exam Study Grants, aimed at assisting students with financial needs and/or caregiving duties. The program offers grants up to $2,500 to help alleviate their financial burdens, enabling them to dedicate more time to studying in the crucial eight weeks leading up to the bar exam. This dedicated study period is vital for success, as evidenced by the fact that 8 out of 11 grant recipients found the time to focus on their studies and successfully passed the bar exam.

Your generous donation TODAY can make a real difference in the life of a deserving law student. Your gift will help a qualifying law student secure a Bar Exam Study Grant, enabling them to dedicate more time to their bar exam preparation.

Thank you for considering this important investment in their future.
