This spring, Hillsdale College, like the rest of the world, is in the midst of a hardship, yet remaining firm, as COVID-19 wreaks havoc on our lives. This pandemic forced the College to postpone classes, to move professors and students to online classrooms, and to cancel numerous activities and events so integral to the Hillsdale experience. In spite of these drastic changes, however, Hillsdale still continues in what it has done for 175 years. As alumni, you may know Hillsdale’s history, replete with examples of endurance. From its founding, Hillsdale has offered “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific [and] theological education outstanding among American colleges and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” The largest goal in Hillsdale’s Four Pillars Campaign is to raise $260.2 million toward scholarships so that any qualified student, regardless of financial situation, will have the opportunity to receive this kind of education. As an alum, you likely benefited from the generosity of scholarship donors. Their gifts enabled you to experience a life-changing education—an education that developed your mind and improved your heart. Won’t you give that same opportunity to future students? In so doing, you not only transform the life of a future Hillsdalian, but also contribute to Hillsdale’s enduring legacy.
