About

UPDATE: An anonymous donor has generously given a $25,000 challenge gift to support the Civil War Monument Restoration Project IF we can achieve the participation of 50 percent of the Senior Class. Every donor will help us achieve our goal and unlock this exciting gift. Make a donation today to help sustain the legacy of Hillsdale veterans, past and present!

The Class of 2021 can attest to cultivating a legacy of spirit and resilience over the past three years, especially in this past year. We are excited to celebrate our many blessings at Hillsdale College through our participation in the Senior Class Gift.

The Class of 2021 has set a goal to raise $25,000 from 175 seniors to restore the historic Civil War Statue on campus. This statue honors Hillsdale’s unique and longstanding commitment to the preservation of freedom.

With much of the country swept up in the fad of erasing history and leveling our historic monuments, we are humbled to highlight and preserve our remarkable heritage and honor those who have (and will) sacrifice so much to protect and preserve our natural human right to freedom.

The College’s long and storied history has been committed to equality and freedom since its founding. In fact, a higher percentage of Hillsdale students enlisted during the Civil War than from any other western college. Of the more than 400 who fought for the Union, four earned the Congressional Medal of Honor, three became generals, and many more served as regimental commanders. Sixty gave their lives.

The restoration of the Civil War monument on our campus represents our dedication to honor and to uphold freedom and opportunity for all. This goal will unite generations of Hillsdale alumni and students, and leave a lasting legacy for the place and community that has touched us all so deeply.

Help the Class of 2021 honor our veterans and share in the College’s dedication to freedom with the restoration of the Civil War Statue! We are always stronger together!

Due to the hardship inflicted on many by COVID-19, we have decided that any overages in fundraising for the Senior Class Gift will be donated to the Ransom Dunn Emergency Scholarship. Receiving a quality education should not be another financial burden during these trying times and together we can make sure that our peers are still able to rejoice in the challenge at Hillsdale College.
