The red oaks of Haverford’s iconic allée are plagued by bacterial leaf scorch, a devastating and lethal condition that will eventually claim them all. To preserve the character of the allée and protect it from epidemics, the Arboretum must plant anew. A diverse mix of healthy young sugar maples, American sycamores, and white oaks—all native species—will carry the legacy into the future.
