Offer a ChallengeClass of 1993 30th Cluster Reunion Giving
To commemorate our 30th Cluster Reunion year, please take a moment to reflect on your time as a Grinnell student. Consider how the generosity of alumni who came before us made a difference in our Grinnell experience.
The opportunities we had and those available to students today are a direct result of gifts to the College. The faculty mentors, research opportunities, and individualized teaching that made up the heart of our Grinnell experience are just as essential for today’s students – and for generations of Grinnellians yet to come. Annual gifts to the College help ensure a future in which these opportunities remain available and accessible to all students.
We have established two goals to honor our 30th Cluster Reunion year:
1. Have 120 classmates make a Reunion gift.
2. Raise $230,093 in gifts and commitments by June 30, 2023.
Please join us in celebrating our 30th Cluster Reunion by making a gift in one of the following ways:
1. A one-time gift made by June 30, 2023.*
2. A monthly or annual recurring gift.*
*Gifts and commitments received by June 30, 2023, and monthly and annual sustaining gifts for the next four fiscal years count toward our class giving 30th Reunion goal!
**If you would like to make a 5-year pledge paying by check, stock gift, or as a mailed annual gift, please complete download and complete this form.
We have learned of an exciting opportunity the College has started for an African Diaspora Studies Chair and think it would be great for our class to prioritize fundraising efforts towards this initiative!
The field of African Diaspora Studies (ADS) is over a half-century old and has consistently engaged multiple disciplines in core courses and disciplines including history, philosophy, aesthetics, political theory, and literature. Grinnell intends to add this program of study during our 30th Reunion year, and a key institutional priority is to raise $1.2M to endow an ADS Chair. An endowed Chair will be instrumental in the recruitment and hiring of a senior-level scholar who will help shape the program. This position sends the boldest of signals to the campus community and the profession: we value this research and teaching.
A strong ADS program is also crucial for recruiting and retaining Black and other students of color to Grinnell College, as well as domestic white and international students concerned with social justice. A strong program also sends a clear message to incoming BIPOC faculty that Grinnell College is not only a welcoming and open community but is committed in the deepest sense to Black life, culture, history, politics, and intellectual traditions.
I hope you will consider giving to this important initiative or any other area of interest for you in support of Grinnell students.
