About

Continuing the Legacy of Maeve McKean

The Georgetown University community mourns the loss of leader, colleague, and friend Maeve McKean. She deeply embodied the values on which our Jesuit institution was founded, vigilantly committed to pursuing social justice while serving those most in need. Her memory will continue to inspire our community for years to come.

As executive director of the Georgetown Global Health Initiative, Maeve McKean wholeheartedly believed that the intersection of health, data, law, policy, and diplomacy will lead to innovative breakthroughs in global health issues. Maeve took special pride in nurturing and mentoring several cohorts of Global Health Fellows, who conducted innovative and important research while at Georgetown, as well as students in her Georgetown Law and School of Foreign Service courses.

In an effort to sustain Maeve’s legacy of inspiring students to pursue careers in global health, Georgetown University is honored to partner with the McKean family to establish the Maeve McKean Global Health Award. The award will support promising scholars who partner across disciplinary lines and seek to improve health outcomes for vulnerable and marginalized communities around the world and in the United States. The fellowship will be awarded annually to support a student or group of students, providing the resources necessary to travel to the World Health Assembly or participate in other experiential learning activities that complement their education.
