For many students, rising tuition costs continue to be the biggest hurdle to college access and degree completion. To afford higher education, students from all backgrounds rely on federal student loans to bridge gaps in funding not met by scholarships or grants. Because the majority of GW nursing students are pursuing second degrees, either at the undergraduate or graduate level, many have already accumulated large debt loads and may be unwilling or unable to secure the needed private or federal loan dollars to offset the cost of attendance. For those whose programs of study make it difficult to hold outside work while enrolled, finding tuition support is critical. Donor support, no matter how much or how little, helps to make nursing school affordable and accessible while lessening the financial burden placed on these learners. Every gift counts because every student counts.

“I am incredibly grateful to be rewarded with the scholarship. Matriculating into an ABSN program is a huge financial commitment, and I am appreciative that my hard work has been noticed and that it can assist me with the cost of tuition. I have met amazing people at GW, and it has been a great place for me to develop the skills to be a nurse.” Samantha Rocha, ABSN student, cohort 21

As a young and emerging school, just celebrating our 10th anniversary, we strive to recruit the best nursing students regardless of their ability to pay. For some, however, the costs associated with pursuing their dreams can be out of reach without financial assistance. That is why student aid is so important. We have the flexibility to support students in a way that best meets their needs. Donor support helps us to prepare the next generation of nurses for the workforce. Making this investment in our students is an investment in the health of our communities.
