This Giving Tuesday, on November 29, 2022, Garrett College Foundation is seeking to increase funding to support the evolving and varied needs of our underserved students.
Similar to sister institutions in the state, as well as campuses across the country, the financial aid office is reporting record numbers of students attempting to opt-out of meal plans, drop classes or forgo textbooks. Additionally, more students than ever are disclosing their homelessness and the inability to attend classes as a result of rising transportation costs.
Seeing a greater demand for basic needs, the foundation endeavors to expand the Garrett College Foundation Fund to assist with other expenses that impede a student’s ability to be successful, in addition to tuition assistance.
The Garrett College Foundation Fund will offer emergency grants for students experiencing a transportation, housing or food crisis. These unmet needs may include, but are not limited to provision for short-term housing assistance, meal plans, and gas or grocery cards.
It doesn’t matter how great the classroom experience can be, or how great the instructional materials or instructors are, if students have fundamental needs that cannot be met, they cannot complete and persist. Providing these resources will ensure that students are as prepared as possible with their basic needs met and are ready to learn.
All gifts made during this one-day, all online campaign will go directly to the Garrett College Foundation Fund and are fully tax-deductible.
"With the help of my classes at Garrett I now have the knowledge and have decided I want to start my own business once I find my calling. I would just like to say thank you to all the donors that made it possible for me to achieve my dreams." - Jessica Bow
