Gene H. Mumper Memorial Scholarship

This campaign ends on December 31 at 11:59PM EST

The family and friends of Gene H. Mumper seek to establish a scholarship fund in his memory. Gene passed away on December 27, 2018 in Morgantown, WV. He was married to retired FSU Professor and Foundation Board member, Dr. Mary Mumper.  The family wishes to secure a scholarship in his memory that will support a veteran who is experiencing financial hardship in the later part of their college career. The family will be matching all funds raised up to $5,000 in his honor.

Gene graduated high school in 1960 from Claysville High, Claysville Pennsylvania. He went on to attend Washington and Jefferson University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in January of 1966 with a degree in Social Science Education. During his time there, he met Mary across from a bridge table at the student union. They were married on May 25, 1966.

Gene served in the US Army reaching the rank of Captain. During his military career, he served two tours in Germany as post commander, completed two tours in Vietnam and Thailand, Fort Lee, VA and with CID at Fort G.G. Meade in Maryland.  After serving his country for eleven years, he worked as a procurement specialist for Amtrak and retired from the NSA in 2001.

Gene loved playing bridge with friends and talking politics with folks who either agreed or disagreed with his point of view.  He enjoyed biking, gardening, riding his lawn tractor in the summer, having friends over to sit on the porch and enjoy our cool Frostburg summer evenings and cruising with Mary and many friends.

Gene & Mary were both avid supporters of Frostburg State University. Dr. Mary Mumper is a retired professor of chemistry at FSU and current member of the Foundation Board of Directors. Help Mary and family honor Gene by supporting The Gene H. Mumper Scholarship.

This crowdfunding site is the primary fundraising tool for the Gene H. Mumper Memorial. Checks may also be made out to the Frostburg State University Foundation (with Gene H. Mumper Scholarship in the memo line), Frostburg State University Foundation, 101 Braddock Road, Frostburg Maryland 21532. If you are interested in making a gift or pledge of stocks and securities, please contact the FSU Foundation at 301-687-4068. Thank you for your support.
