Pass The Torch

This campaign ended on December 02, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Foothill-De Anza Foundation by clicking here!

Founded in 1996 by Dr. Jean Thomas, the innovative Foothill College Pass the Torch program has as its mission to help at-promise students from underserved populations earn the highest potential grade in a specific course so they can advance to the next level of instruction. The program is designed to transform students into active learners by linking students who excel in English, ESLL and Math with students who want support in these same core classes.

With its unique one-on-one study team emphasis, Pass the Torch has proven itself quarter after quarter to be a program that makes a difference in Foothill College students’ academic success and has continued to help thousands of students achieve their academic goals despite limited funding and state budget cutbacks.

Here are the words of two Pass the Torch alumni:

“I was profoundly touched by the faculty and staff who gave so much of themselves in order to see kids like me succeed.”

“I, too, hope to someday become an educator in order to follow the footsteps of Dr. Jean Thomas and pursue a world in which education is accessible and a reality for all.”

The name, Pass the Torch, is intended to give the message that all students can pass on their knowledge to someone else once they have succeeded. On Giving Tuesday, please help us reach more students by passing the torch of generosity and making a donation to our program!

Thank you,

The Pass the Torch Team
