Food (in)Security at Foothill College

Foothill is working hard to reduce the achievement gap that impacts
some of our minority populations on campus. Based on collected research
from the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (,
these same populations are more likely to experience food insecurity –
lack of sufficient food or anxiety about hunger. Moreover, food
insecurity has a negative effect on performance in class, so eliminating
food insecurity is clear step toward eliminating the achievement gap.
Foothill has a food pantry on campus so that qualifying students can
take food home, but the STEM Center's Foundations Lab is also providing
reasonable snacks to students during the day. The snacks are available
to all students in the Foundations Lab, so there is no stigma associated
with taking advantage of this program. Since the Foundations Lab
disproportionately serves minority and low-income students, the snacks
are naturally going exactly where they need to go. Your donation will
help keep the food stocked and keep our students focused on school.
