Food insecurities among college students are at an all time high. Access to food should not be a problem anyone faces, including students. The De Anza Food Pantry grew out of staff and faculty efforts to provide snacks for hungry students during class. As that need became increasingly visible, the De Anza Pantry came to be in 2016 through collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank and West Valley Community Services. At the pantry, students can access up to one week's worth of pantry staples. In response to student needs the pantry has expanded even further to include a number of satellite snack pantries across campus and provides a number of additional resources including CalFresh enrollment support. Increasing the presence of the food pantry has helped combat stigma around receiving help with food insecurities and has also increased the demand for more resources. A recent survey showed 58% of De Anza students are experiencing food insecurity. In the 2017-18 academic year the De Anza Food Pantry was accessed by 409 unduplicated students a total of 2,227 times. Please consider supporting student achievement through access to food.
