About

Michael (Mike) D. Laylock passed away with his loving wife at his side on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at Advent Health, Daytona Beach, FL.

A kind, loving and humble gentleman who lived a beautiful life with his Dawn by his side. She was his Angel. They shared a true love story for almost 40 years. There were no children, just their three cats, Muffin J.,Fuzzy Bear and Sugar Bear Olivia. Michael retired as the director of ground safety for US Airways, now American Airlines.

As a young boy, growing up in Level Green, PA, Mike was a great athlete. He excelled in most sports but specifically baseball and basketball. He earned two scholarships to college. After graduating from Penn HS in 1959, he attended Fresno State where he played both baseball and basketball. When his mother became ill, he transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he played baseball and went to the state championship. After graduation, Mike attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his masters degree.

Michael was an avid golfer. Very humble, he had the first double eagle on #1, a par 5, 478 yards at Club De Bonmont at Plantation Bay. He won many club championships.

Mike and Dawn cherished their life and friends at Plantation Bay for 26 years. A member of Seven Oaks Country Club and the Greek Catholic Union.

In addition to golf, Michael enjoyed fishing, working out at the fitness center and attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Basketball games for over 20 years.
