About

Our Mission

The Embry-Riddle Sailing Club is a student-run organization on the Daytona Beach campus. Our mission is to promote the sport of sailing through educational programs and by participating in competitions with the Intercollegiate Sailing Association.

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to expand our fleet to 12 Flying Junior sailboats. The Daytona Beach Student Government Association has generously contributed $11,000 to our club towards our goal. Will you help us to raise the remaining $4,000?

Our Growth Story

Over the past two years, our program has experienced an overwhelming interest from Embry-Riddle students and faculty to learn how to sail and join our sailing team. In this short span of time, our sailing team has grown from just four sailors, to over 18 active team members. The greater club has also grown dramatically, starting with 10 members and growing to over 40 active members.

We are proud of our growth and excited for the future of our sailing club. However, we do not currently have the capital or the equipment needed to keep up with the needs of our growing program. As we continue to recruit and grow our membership each semester, we need to expand our fleet of boats in order to accommodate our growing numbers.

Our club currently owns and operates six Flying Junior Sailboats and two Club 420 Sailboats. We are one of the smaller college sailing clubs in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Because of this, we are unable to host our own regattas or accommodate our team at practice. Additionally, the two Club 420s in our fleet are past their usable life and in need of retirement.

The next step for our club is to expand to a 12 boat fleet of Flying Junior sailboats. This will not only accommodate our growing program, but it will also put Embry-Riddle in a position to host regattas for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association.

We believe that this capital raise will be extremely important in determining the future of our club and is the most effective way to support our growing program.

How you can help

We need your support. Your donation today will go directly towards the purchase of our new fleet of boats and will help our club to be on par with other college sailing programs. Your support will allow our team to be more competitive and to promote Embry-Riddle across a new demographic.

Will you make a donation in support of the Embry-Riddle Sailing Club today?

Suggested Giving Levels

  • $50    - Optimist Sailor
  • $100  - FJ Sailor
  • $200  - 470 Sailor

How will donations be used?

  • $12,000 - Allocated to purchase six FJ Sailboats
    • This will bring our total fleet size to 12 FJs in like age and condition, accomplishing all the goals stated above.
  • $3,000 - Allocated to purchase boat dollies
    • Boat dollies are small trailer we use to store the FJs and move them around our facility. We need to buy six more dollies to accommodate the new boats.

Additional Projects

If we exceed our goal of $15,000 all additional donations will go toward the following projects. The boats we are buying are used and we will need to contribute additional capital to get them race ready. All other funds raised will go toward buying sails, rigging, and any other equipment needed to get the boats ready to host events.

  • $5,000 - Six New Sets of Sails
    • The used sails that will come with the boats are in need of replacement. New sails are also needed in order to race the boats competitively.
  • $1,000 - Rigging, Hiking Straps
    • These are all wear and tear items we need to replace to bring them up to par with the rest of our fleet.
