About

Support student research by joining the EMU Physics and Astronomy Drive for 25 in celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology in 2025!

Student research projects provide opportunities for students to develop new physics knowledge, problem-solving and technical skills, and confidence that are transferable to a wide array of future career paths. The goal of the Drive for 25 is to have 25 donors contribute in any amount to the EMU Foundation funds that support student research in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Total donations made during the two weeks beginning on Giving TrueDay will be matched up to $2500 by a supporter of the Department so your gift will go twice as far!

During the past few years, the Department has established two new funds to support student research: the Opportunity Fund, which helps students who have financial need, and the Student Research Fund. These funds are intended to provide support for students to work with a faculty member on a short-term, well-defined research project.  The first award from the Opportunity Fund was awarded in 2024 for a project that involved computationally modeling a mechanically driven, magnetically coupled, rotational oscillator.

These funds have two parts: expendable and endowed. If you contribute to the expendable part of the fund, your support can be used immediately to support student research. On the other hand, if you contribute to the endowed part of the fund, your gift will be used to generate student support every year.

Other possibilities for giving include the Society of Physics Students Fund and the Physics and Astronomy Fund. No matter how you choose to give, physics and astronomy students will benefit from your support!
