About

WE ARE DOANE UNIVERSITY.

Our residence halls and academic buildings have been unexpectedly emptied due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a truly unprecedented global event. But we are more than our physical facilities. Everyone from our past, present, and future is a Tiger, no matter where they are at this moment. We are still Doane University. We will see this through. We will fill these halls again, and we can’t wait for the day when we are Tigers together again.

Your help at this time will support a barrier-free education, innovation, and our community as a whole.

Barrier-Free Education

BARRIER-FREE EDUCATION

Students join our Doane community from the full spectrum of backgrounds and cultures to discover their true vocations and to pursue the careers they dream of—as educators and entrepreneurs, as doctors and nurses, as authors and artists, scientists and mathematicians, economists and accountants.

But some of these young students are at a crossroads. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a wave of panic and uncertainty that is causing many of our students to question their dreams. As families lose their jobs and students are unable to work, they may realize that a Doane degree is financially beyond their grasp. Despite their savings, their hard work, and a patchwork of grants and loans, there remains a financial barrier.

Through the TIGERS TOGETHER initiative, we will increase the financial support we are able to offer our students in need. This initiative will ensure aid is available for students for whom tuition payments are pitted squarely, now overwhelmingly, against the costs of supporting a household. This barrier-free education will provide our incredible students with the support that, coupled with their own hard work, will allow them to attain their dream of a Doane education.

Innovation

INNOVATION

Doane was founded on an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative nature that has allowed the university to not only survive but thrive through its 100-plus years.

From the V12/V5 program during the World War II crisis and later ensuring our door was open to all students throughout the Civil Rights movement, to our implementation of nontraditional education in the 1980s and online learning in the digital era, we have a history brimming with examples of innovation and forward thinking.

Even before the COVID-19 crisis, Doane acknowledged the need to re-examine ourselves and how we proceed in the future. As a result, we began the process of undergoing a comprehensive review of organizational, program, and administrative priorities at the university which will allow us to reset our course as needed and invest in our future.

We believe greater things lie ahead and we choose to meet them boldly and nimbly through innovation. We encourage big, bold thinking from all of our students, faculty, and staff to ensure that Doane remains at the forefront of relevant new learning. We realize innovation in higher education grows via technology, and Doane needs resources through the TIGERS TOGETHER initiative to help innovate and invest in the future.

Community

COMMUNITY

Doane is a family. It’s the friendly faces, trusted professors, helpful staff members, and lifelong friends that form the tightly-knit community that makes Doane University an extended family. Faculty and staff have called and texted nearly every student to make sure they are well and offer help where we can.

When students were unable to return to campus after spring break, the university quickly decided to reimburse families nearly $1 million dollars in room and board expenses to make up for their absence from their residence halls. Social distancing policies have also caused Doane to rethink summer camps, conferences, and onground classes for adult and graduate education. These events will have a definite impact on our ability to serve students and our bottom line.

Although Doane is not eligible for many employment areas in the ‘‘CARES Act,” in the true spirit of supporting family, the university created their own policies. In an attempt to minimize furloughs and/or layoffs, there are concentrated efforts to find added responsibilities, changing positions, and the allowance of flexible work hours to keep individuals on staff. We need to ensure that Doane comes out of this pandemic whole, and that means taking care of our community through our TIGERS TOGETHER initiative.

These are significant times for Doane University. The resilience of our students, the commitment of our faculty and staff, the stewardship of our leaders, and the guidance of our alumni have brought us here.

Now, those same forces inspire us to move forward. Please join us as we come TOGETHER. AS TIGERS.
