Why I give

First and foremost, I give to DVFriends because I believe passionately in the mission of the school, and in my nearly 15 years at DV, I have seen that promise fulfilled in the lives of students and families over and over again.

Whether it's in the stories students of all ages tell me about how their lives have changed for the better since coming to DV, or whether it's in the ways students blossom academically and in extra-curricular activities like the musical, the transformative power of the school on young lives is visible and palpable in big and small ways every single day.

Another reason why giving back to DV is important to me is because of the care and support the community has given to me and my family in the time that I have been here. We've gone through some tough times, and the school community has been there for us in ways I can never repay. I consider my colleagues part of my extended family!

What do your donations fund at DV?

Our large offering of no-cut athletics. For such a small school, we offer many different sports for students to try in a low-pressure environment. Our athletic program is built more around inclusion, engagement, and teamwork than around the results on the scoreboard.

David Calamaro started off as a teacher at DV over 27 YEARS AGO.

Now he's helping to guide DV into the future as Associate Head and Academic Dean with his vast knowledge of students who learn differently and the faculty who teach them. David knows that offering professional development opportunities to our teachers is what keeps them at the top of their game.
