26.2 for Juj!

By Anna Wykowski

This campaign ended on November 05, 2017, but you can still make a gift to Davidson College by clicking here!

I work as an assistant principal at a high school in Denver, Colorado. As their four years come to an end, we encourage our students to courageously capitalize on their strengths, their interests, and ultimately find paths and/or colleges that are the best fit for them. I can speak personally to the “fit” I found at Davidson. At Davidson, I felt at home- with hall mates on 3rd Little, the sisterhoods with our good friend Andre at Warner Hall Eating House, the long hours in the pool with DCSD, or with most of the student body grabbing Outpost quesadillas before heading back up the hill.

On November 5th, I will be running the NYC Marathon in memory of Juliana Porter, a fellow teammate of mine at Davidson College who passed away tragically on October 4, 2015. Juliana had an enthusiasm about her that was contagious—always smiling, never complaining, and forever leaving an indelible mark on your heart.

26.2 miles is a long way to go. For a person that spent the majority of my athletic prime swimming and never fully breaking in a pair of running shoes, it is a long way to go. Through this final month of my training and the ultimate test- the marathon- I hope that I can create awareness for this fund started by the Porter family and Joshua Yost, Class of 2012.

To know her was to love her—this one is for you, Juliana!
