The Opportunity Scholars program provides retention resources such as tutors, mentors, internships, advising, career-services, service-learning projects, community outreach, networking opportunities, counseling, financial assistance and anytime access to the program director. The program also contributes to the educational experience of all students at the Eccles School by introducing students with diverse backgrounds and experiences into the academic setting.
Scholars are expected to give back to the broader community through volunteer work, engagement in Opportunity Scholars activities, and in their academic commitment at the Eccles School.
The Opportunity Scholars Program is funded entirely by donations from University of Utah alumni, businesses and foundations. In a short-time, the program has had a significant impact in assisting its target student population to gain a college education.
Students in the program receive:
- Tuition and book based scholarships
- Tutoring, mentoring, and academic advisement
- Preparation for interviews, internships, service learning, and networking opportunities
Currently, 160 students are involved in the Opportunity Scholars Program. The dynamic demographics of the program include students from the following backgrounds: Anglo, African-American, Asian, Eastern European, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern, Native-American, Pacific Islander, and Africa.
Make an impact on a student's life and make a gift today! Square Financial Services is matching all gifts made to Opportunity Scholars up to $15,000! For example, this means your $50 gift instantly becomes a $100 contribution.
