1996 Minutes for Cristo Rey Students

This campaign ends on October 1 at 06:00PM EDT

Join us for this second annual 1996 Minutes for Cristo Rey Giving Day campaign, to help us close this year’s funding gap, unmet by student work study jobs. For the past 25 years, Cristo Rey has educated low-income, Spanish-speaking students from Chicago’s Southwest Side, and continues to serve over 560 students annually. Through Cristo Rey’s innovative Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), students work for and earn nearly 70% of the cost of their own education — making a quality, college preparatory education possible for students who could not otherwise afford it. The resulting work experience, career exploration, mentorship, and networking students receive is invaluable in positioning them to succeed in college and beyond.

Due to COVID-19, Cristo Rey is preparing for remote work by taking the following steps:

  • Assigning every student a school-provided computing device
  • Requiring all remote student workers undergo training in: IT security, confidentiality, online threat protection, remote work best practices
  • Providing students with secure, high-speed internet at school and at home
  • Supporting student supervisors by providing remote work orientations, sharing sample job descriptions, giving access to virtual curricula, connecting companies with resources
  • Making CWSP managers available to: provide pre-work orientation, supervise and troubleshoot throughout the workday, maintain bi-weekly student check ins, instruct monthly professional development sessions

Make a gift to the 1996 Minutes for Cristo Rey Campaign and help us close the funding gap for students unable to earn $9,250 of their own tuition through our Corporate Work Study Program. Donate on September 30 and help us reach our goal of 147 donors – honoring each member of our freshman class.
