Mines Shell Eco-Marathon Team

This campaign ended on April 07, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Colorado School of Mines by clicking here!

The Team

We are team No Resistance, the Colorado School of Mines representative in the 2018 Shell Eco-Marathon Competition. Our team consists of 15 hardworking engineering students - 4 electrical and 11 mechanical. We are very excited to continue to build our vehicle and are committed to a top finish at the competition this April in Sonoma, CA.

The Competition

The Shell Eco-Marathon competition is all about efficiency, not speed. Over several days, teams make as many attempts as possible to travel the further on the equivalent of one liter of fuel. We will drive a fixed number of laps around the road track at Sonoma Raceway, and the vehicle's efficiency will be calculated after finishing laps. The team that completes the course with the highest efficiency wins the competition.

The Car

We will be competing in the battery electric prototypes class. Our car, the Voltswagon, will be three-wheeled with an aluminum chassis and fiberglass shell. The car will be driven forward by a brush-less hub motor on the rear wheel of the car and powered by battery packs. The entire vehicle will be built and designed from scratch by our team.

Our Goal

Our goal for competition is to place in the top three. Not only because of our drive to compete, but also to spread word that Colorado School of Mines produces some of the best engineers around. Our work will help expand the reputation of Mines and increase the role of alternative energy in the senior design program for years to come.

Your Donation

The goal of this campaign is to raise $2,000, enough to fund replacement parts and materials while we are at the competition in Sonoma. We've learned in past years that various areas of the car are prone to failure and that without substitute parts we may not be able to advance in the competition. These spare parts also enable us to make changes on-the-go to improve the car's efficiency after each run.

Your gift will be critical to our success in 2018. Thank you for your support!
