We are the Entusi Model Farm Team, a group of Mines students from multiple engineering backgrounds.

We are collaborating with the Global Livingston Institute to develop an improved irrigation system for the Entusi Model farm located by Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda.

The goal is to create a low cost, low maintenance solution that can easily be reproduced for the farmers in the community. The development of a better irrigation method will directly impact the farmers and hopefully increase crop yield. The goal is to increase this yield as much as possible so that the people and their families will have more income to support a higher standard of living.

Your donation will help take us to Uganda, so we can connect with local farmers and understand their needs. The Global Livingston Institute works by the philosophy of “Listen, Think, Act”. In order to carry out the “listen” component we need to travel to this location to gather the community’s input to our project and make sure they are involved in it as much as possible. By donating today, you will help us in planning the travel and material cost estimates ahead of time so that our trip will be as productive and impactful to the community as possible.

Entusi Model Farm Update

All,First, our team would like to thank you for your continued support of our team and our project on the Entusi Model Farm in Uganda.

Yesterday, the Colorado School of Mines released a travel restriction, stating that, "All university-affiliated international travel is suspended until further notice. This includes travel for conferences, visits to Mines affiliates or research sites, athletics, alumni and donor events."

We have been asked to cancel our trip, and not reschedule. Team members Anli, Elena, Emily, and Jacob were scheduled to fly out on Friday, March 20th. With the travel restriction, we are working with Brussels Air to try to get refunds for flights.

Additionally, Colorado School of Mines has cancelled classes for next week, and we will move to online-only learning after Spring Break. For more information, please click the link below:

What does this mean for our project?
Well, we may not be able to get the site data we needed as soon as we hoped. We are actively working with the Global Livingston Institute (who operates the Entusi Model Farm and is sponsoring our project) to acquire as much data as we can so that this project is effectively and responsibly carried out. That being said, this project will likely be passed on to another senior design team next year, who will hopefully be able to visit Uganda and put our designs to the test on the Entusi Model Farm.

What about your money?
The money you donated to our project was spent on airline tickets through Brussels Air. If we receive a refund, the money will stay associated with the Entusi Farm project, and be spent in the future. Otherwise, we appreciate your contribution, and we will keep you updated as the situation progresses.

Thank you for your continued support, and please let us know if you have any questions.
