Newton Turf Field
We are excited to share that a new lighted turf field will arrive on campus this spring! Newton Turf Field will be constructed adjacent to Slater Field, and we invite you to be a part of this project that will impact so many CA students.
Slater Field has been home to CA’s growing field sports programs for nearly 20 years. We now have a perfectly timed project to meet the ever-growing needs of the programs that will add a second lighted turf field and space for parking—all in time for the coming school year. Newton Turf Field will be built to the west of and parallel to Slater Field and will provide critical practice and game space for Middle School and Upper School Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Soccer teams.
The project also offers exciting opportunities for CA to help meet the needs of our greater community. In addition to use by CA athletes, the Newton Turf Field will be used by youth and collegiate athletes in the Denver community, enabling the school to foster relationships with key community partners and raise non-tuition-based revenue.
Additionally, this project will provide infrastructure for future development of the Newton property.
The projected cost to complete the Newton Turf Field project is $7.2 million. Included in the project are:
- a turf field to be built with the latest in turf technology, providing a more natural and responsive playing surface appropriate for all field sports
- 70-foot tall light poles with environmentally friendly LED lights that will allow games to be played even after the sun goes down
- stadium seating, with enough seats to host playoff games
- two scoreboards, including installation of a scoreboard at Newton Field and a new scoreboard at Slater Field
- a practice area for Wall Ball, so players can practice basic stick skills independently
- parking for more than 150 cars, with entrance from South Teller Street
Additional features may include:
- streaming and enhanced video recording capabilities that will allow games to be watched live from off-campus, provide coaches with video for post-game evaluation, and provide video content that can be shared for college recruiting
- a filming tower and scorer’s table to provide elevated shelter for filming and scorekeepers
- a sound system, including installation of a new sound system at Slater Field
Through the generosity of a group of current CA families, CA has already raised more than $4.83 million for the Newton Field project. We invite you to join them by making a gift to this important campus amenity. With your support, we will create a much-needed facility that will impact the CA Athletics program for many years to come.
Time and time again, we have seen how CA is transformed when our community comes together to support a cause, and we can’t wait to see students playing on Newton Turf Field and the positive impact it will have on our campus. Thank you for your consideration of support.
