Giving Tuesday 2018

This campaign ended on November 27, 2018, but you can still make a gift to College of Southern Maryland by clicking here!

On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the CSM Foundation will join thousands of colleges and nonprofits around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity by participating in #GivingTuesday, a 24-hour online giving event using social media. CSM knows firsthand the generosity that thrives within the Southern Maryland community and the CSM family. For the past six years, CSM has witnessed this remarkable giving spirit unfold as people step forward on Giving Tuesday with gifts large and small that will contribute to the success of CSM students working toward degrees, certificates or the mastery of a new skill set. Last year, the CSM Foundation raised $123,124 through 370 unique donors.

Choose CSM this year and champion student success by donating to the CSM Foundation on November 27.  Gifts of every size, contributed on #GivingTuesday by people like you, will help change lives here at home in Southern Maryland.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS. On #GivingTuesday each CSM campus is focusing on a project that will help their local campus and community.

  • CSM La Plata Campus
Hematology Analyzer for Medical Lab Technology Program
This machine is critical to the educational experience of the Medical Lab students, a program that has enormous potential for growth in the health care industry in Southern Maryland.
  • CSM Leonardtown Campus
Fitness Equipment for the Nature and Fitness Trail
The Nature and Fitness Trail on the college’s Leonardtown Campus is open to the community and is intended for both educational and recreational use and allows users to exercise while enjoying natural landscapes in an open air environment. The trail was recently renovated including widening and clearing the path, rebuilding two bridges over a creek, landscaping, signage for the trail and tree identification. The next phase will be to add outdoor fitness equipment at the trail's entrance that will provide minimal impact on the natural environment while promoting and supporting a healthy college and community.
  • CSM Prince Frederick Campus
    Ward Virts Concert Series
The Ward Virts Concert Series celebrates the life and talent of Ward Virts, a talented Southern Maryland pianist who died suddenly in 1993. A group of Ward’s friends and classmates conceived the Ward Virts Piano Project to bring the love of life, beauty and music that Ward embodied to a new generation of Southern Maryland students, performers and appreciative audiences. The concerts are performed on a world-class handcrafted Bosendorfer Grand Piano, a gift to CSM’s Prince Frederick Campus from the Ward Virts Piano Project.
  • CSM Regional Hughesville Campus
    Workforce Development Scholarships
The Center for Trades and Energy Training, the first building on the Regional Hughesville Campus, provides residents direct access to specialized training in career fields that have substantial growth potential, which plays a significant role in shaping the local economy by educating and training the future workforce and enriching the lives of Southern Maryland residents. Scholarships are needed for these workforce training students-who are ineligible for financial assistance—in the areas of business, construction and skilled trades, cybersecurity/IT, healthcare, hospitality, and transportation.

STUDENT PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS.  This #GivingTuesday both the CSM Student Association and CSM Athletics are raising money for programs in their areas.

  • The CSM Student Association is raising funds and awareness for its Students Helping Students Fund which provides assistance to CSM students that are experiencing a hardship that is impacting their ability to begin or continue their academic education.
  • CSM Athletics is raising funds for charter transportation for all teams, funding for trips to Nationals and elevated bleachers for the soccer/lacrosse field. Donors may also give to the individual CSM athletic team that is nearest to their hearts. To participate in the Athletics Challenge, click here.
