About

Diocese of Reno Scholarship (DORS) Fundraising Breakfast
Thank you for joining us for our first annual DORS Fundraising Breakfast! Together, we can make the dream of a Catholic-based education come true for children and families throughout our Northern Nevada communities. No child should be turned away from receiving a faith-filled, private education because they can't afford it.

The DORS Fundraising Breakfast brings together patrons from throughout Northern Nevada to advocate and raise money for students K-12 in our communities, and assist with growing the DORS endowment to a level that will provide major tuition assistance for local families.

About DORS
In 2010 the Diocesan Scholarship was established and was the joint vision of Bishop Emeritus Philip Straling and Bishop Randolph Calvo to provide financial assistance to students in grades K-12 who may not have been able to otherwise have a Catholic-based education. The program was initially funded by an anonymous $100,000 donation and matched by the Diocese of Reno. In 2011-2012 the same anonymous donor offered a $50,000 matching contribution, where then additional donors nearly met this challenge and raised an additional $42,000. Year after year this anonymous donor continues to support the scholarship program, and DORS has grown dramatically as a result of their generosity. Since his installation in September of 2021, Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg has brought renewed growth and support to the Diocesan Scholarship Program. To date, 355 students have benefitted from this scholarship program. Currently, 38 students receiving the DORS Scholarship 2022-2023 - All area Catholic schools, including five parochial schools and one high school, have DORS scholars present.

Moving Forward
The long-term vision for this scholarship program is to have the DORS endowment grow to a level that will provide major tuition assistance for local schools. The program will offer a platform of clear educational affordability for students and their families from grades K-12 who desire a Catholic-based education. At $5,000,000, the DORS endowment would generate enough funding to provide 90 students per year with DORS scholarships.
