For our Senior Class Gift, the Beloit College Class of 2024 is proudly raising funds to revitalize and renovate the Dr. Debra Majeed Lounge in Morse-Ingersoll Hall.
The late Professor Emerita of Religious Studies Debra Majeed broke new ground as the first Black woman and first Muslim woman to earn tenure at the college. A religious historian, her scholarship and teaching included religious studies, Islamic studies, cultural and identity studies, and womanist studies.
Professor Majeed was a role model and compassionate mentor to countless students and faculty, expressing what her faculty colleague Sonya Maria Johnson called “a fierce love for Beloit” by pushing for racial equity, justice, and understanding. Her tenure, from 1999 to 2020, left a tremendous legacy at Beloit.
Your support will allow us to help the community remember and honor Dr. Majeed.
Please join us in supporting our 2024 Senior Class Gift by making a gift and sharing this page with your friends and family. Thank you!
"I want people to know I was here. I want to be engaged in activity that brings life, love, and education into other people's lives. I want to leave something that makes the world a better place." —Dr. Debra Majeed
