Act Six is a leadership scholarship program that connects local faith-based community affiliates with faith- and social justice-based institutions of higher education to equip emerging student leaders to engage their campuses and communities at home. The Act Six initiative believes that emerging leaders, with the right opportunity, support, and inspiration, can combine their natural gifts and passions with a college education to create a new kind of bold, visionary leadership that will transform our campuses, our cities, and our collective future.
Act Six identifies and rewards scholars who are passionate about learning, eager to foster intercultural relationships, willing to step out of their comfort zones, committed to serving those around them, and want to use their college education to make a difference on campus and in their communities at home.
Every two years all Act Six students are required to attend a Convention that costs $150 each of their own money and they have to pay for transportation and hotel costs as well. To lessen this financial burden, we would like to fundraise to cover most or all of the cost to ensure that this is not a barrier for any scholar to have equal access to this opportunity.
Also, the approximately 28 students who are awarded the Act Six scholarship are provided with tuition and housing support but are responsible for their EFC (Expected Family Contribution) and other expenses that may arise. We would like to create a Contingency fund with any additional amount raised that can be used to support unexpected expenses that may cause additional financial strain.
The Act Six Scholars will benefit from these funds to lighten the financial burden and focus on their academics, creating and making positive change on campus and in their communities. Access to these funds will allow students to continue focus on being change makers and while being full time students.
